298 Banana Cream Pie Cocktails And The Women Who Love Them

Aloha and Welcome!  Our dimly lit tiki bar is just waiting for your to pop on in.  Sunshine and Starshine dish happenings after two weeks away from the lounge.  Starting with version one of an upcoming cocktail, Banana Cream Pie or whatever it may end up being named.  None of us have a love for those overly fake banana liquors and schnapps so we used only banana rum and fresh pureed banana to give this drink a light and distinct tropical touch.  Appleton Estate and Cruzan Vanilla round out the booze components and toss in some brown sugar for good measure.  Follow the link to try this one at home.

If you love banana but hate those overly sweet bar drinks, this one is for you.  Fresh banana puree, brown sugar and rum bring out the true flavors of a banana cream pie.  Click here for the recipe:  Banana Cream Pie Cocktail

Listener Lani asked us how to make quick and easy cocktails for a few friends without having lots of stuff left over afterwards.  Great question, and a fairly easy answer.  Serve just two or three drinks at your shindig.  Assume each guest will drink approx 1.5 cocktails per hour, 2 cocktails per hour if you have FUN friends.  Hit the internet for a few quick well drink recipes or a few cocktails that have no more than 4 to 5 ingredients each.  Its best to stick with one or two staple spirits like vodka or rum for quick drinks.  Best of all, know your audience.  Most people will enjoy a well mixed cocktail of almost any type.  Use fresh juices vs. canned or concentrated.  Cola, ginger ale, lemon lime, soda water and tonic are the best fizzy mixers and if you buy a six pack of each they keep forever until you need them again.  You can usually make two or three drinks with each can.  BIG TIP: don't use those damn 16 or 24oz red cups.  NEVER NEVER NEVER serve a cocktail on those damn ugly cups.  If you don't have a dozen 10-12oz real glasses, get clear plastic no more than 12oz.  Keeping your friends buzzed but not barfing on your carpet can be helped with portion control.  Get more details by listening to the podcast.  If you want to be challenged with some great cocktail recipes with lots of ingredients, we recommend Kahuna Kevin's cocktail books.  For some great drink with fewer ingredients and some history of the recipes and liquors, listen to 5 Minutes of Rum Podcast.

The remainder of this episode is a recollection of the Slot Machine inspirations that Sunshine has had during his most recent casino trips.  Complimentary drinks with odd garnishes, hookers and how to shoo them away, poor service, a great show or two and much more.  A few days roaming the Las Vegas strip sure gives you something to talk about when you get back home.  This trip was no different.

It may be 30 degrees below zero in many parts of the US and Europe right now, but we are already talking about getting our closets ready for warmer times.  Take a look through your shirts and dresses, pull out what you don't wear anymore.  Sell it on ebay, give to a friend or take to a donation center.  Then find yourself some vintage Hawaiian shirts or dresses that are made of the good stuff.  Barkcloth.  Never wrinkles, packs easy and lasts forever.  We discuss a few tips to groom your closet and find some new "vintage" threads.

Enjoy the show.  Tell a Friend.  And if you can, make a donation by using the link on our page.  Cheers and Mahalo!
