A few weeks back listener Stefan asked "how would you make a Gimlet without Rose's Lime Juice since we previously said it was an overly sweet and rather poor product".  Well, now its time for the answer.  And although the first few minutes of the show had some audio difficulty, we pressed on just for Stefan.  Vanilla and Sapphire join Sunshine in the lounge to sip several versions of the Gimlet cocktail and play some music inspired from a recent flight to Vancouver.  Visit this link for a little history on the cocktail that is in question.  Purists tend to say that a Gimlet should be made with Gin, though some prefer the vodka version.  Here in the Zen Tiki Lounge we clearly prefer Gin.  And Sunshines favorite gin to use in a Gimlet  and any tiki drink is Tanqueray Rangpur because it has an extra limeyness to it.  Perfect.  Our music this week was inspired by a recent flight to Seattle/Vancouver.  Sunshine traveled to visit family and hit a tiki bar or two.  On the light the random setting played Hawai'i Nocturne by Tikiyaki Orchestra, La Pampa y La Puna by Martin Denny, Take the A Train by Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica and Orinoco by Robert Drasnin.  This set of four songs soothed my fear of flying, combined with a few airborne cocktails.  If you don't have these tracks you can get them all in iTunes or eMusic.  We managed to squeeze in all this before running off to hear our favorite 80's cover band, The Reflexx.  Cheers and Mahalo! Make your own Lime Syrup

1/2 cup white granulated sugar

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup fresh lime juice, pulp strained out

Zest of 4 limes

Simmer all ingredients just long enough for sugar to completely dissolve.  Turn off heat and cover.  Let stand for 10 minutes.  Using a coffee filter or several layers of cheesecloth, strain out lime zest.  Pour into a bottle and save in refrigerator.  Keeps for about 60 days.  You can add an ounce of 151 rum to keep it fresh longer.
